Yesterday I had my final group critique before the show in two weeks. Mostly everything is made for display but i have 2 decisions to make. Some people suggested that instead of displaying the dress on a chair to create an interior space, I should put the dress on a bodice as if it was in a shop window.
Concerning photographs, depending on which display i choose I want to either continue with the fancy depictions of the dress and accessories or take photos of wiping my mouth with the dress, blotting lipstick, eating cake and drinking wine. Performing "wedding-like" actions or almost destructive actions. Any feedback would be helpful.. thanks !

ReplyDeleteNikki, I think you need to really think about what you want the viewer to take from your work. Whether you're glorying the fashion industry or mocking the bridal world. You just have to be set on one and execute it. I think that is what's holding you back. I also think you should definitely include images. The documentation of the work is important. It helps to push the concept further.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Terri. If you can decide on your message, then the direction you take will be more natural and obvious. Just as my own personal preference, I like the second option of doing wedding/destructive actions. This idea is just more interesting to me than the fashion route, since I feel like the fashion aspect is just very predictable when photographing a dress. However, one thing I wanted to say is that I really love your idea to crochet that large paper rug, I think it will look really beautiful when put in the space of the gallery.
ReplyDeleteLike Terri said, just make a concrete decision about the message you care about and the rest will take care of itself.
